History of the School

St. Mary's School, Newasa is an English Medium Convent School managed by the Ursuline Sisters of Mary Immaculate. Inspired by the foundress, Blessed Brigida Morello, the school is committed to providing quality education that nurtures faith, culture, knowledge and character.

Guided by the Ursuline philosophy of education, the school strives for the integral formation of every child, helping students become God-fearing, honest, compassionate and responsible citizens.

1992–1993

The Beginning

St. Mary's School began at Newasa Phata in 1992 with just 40 L.K.G. students under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Denise Borges S.J. The Ursuline Sisters of Mary Immaculate were invited to Newasa by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Thomas Bhalerao, Bishop of Nashik. In 1993, the UMI Sisters began their mission with Srs. Henrietta, Matilda and Sharon as pioneers.

1993–1997

Growth and a New Campus

Under the dedicated leadership of the UMI Sisters, the school steadily grew. The five-acre campus, initially dry and rocky, was transformed into a beautiful environment for education. In 1997, the school shifted from Newasa Phata to its new school building after receiving recognition up to Standard IV.

1999–2005

Building Academic Excellence

On 1st April 1999, Bishop Thomas Bhalerao laid the foundation for the extension of the school building. The school's first SSC batch achieved an impressive 96.42% result in 2004, followed by a 100% SSC result in 2005. Sr. Ruzaria Corte was also honoured as the Most Active Principal of the Academic Year 2004–2005 in Ahmednagar District.

2014–2018

Silver Jubilee and Achievement

In 2014, Sr. Jyotsna Antony took charge as Principal. The school later celebrated its Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years of service and educational excellence. The SSC batch of 2017–2018 achieved a 100% result, with Master Abhishek Lazaras Gaikwad scoring an outstanding 99.60%.

2020–2022

Strength Through Challenges

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the school adapted to online education and continued supporting students and families. The Sisters extended assistance to around 200 families from nearby villages. Despite the challenges, St. Mary's continued its tradition of academic excellence with 100% SSC results in 2021 and 2022.

2023–2024

Growth Beyond Academics

The school continued strengthening its sports infrastructure. A volleyball court was constructed in 2023, followed by basketball courts and a cricket pitch in 2024. Students also achieved recognition at national and state levels in volleyball and wrestling.

2024–2025

New Leadership, Continuing Excellence

In May 2025, Sr. Josy completed six years of dedicated service as Principal and handed over the responsibility to Sr. Jyothis, who officially assumed charge in June 2025. The academic year 2024–2025 once again brought a 100% SSC result, reflecting the continued dedication of the students, staff and leadership.

Today

A Legacy That Continues

Today, St. Mary's School provides quality education to more than 1,350 students from Kindergarten to Standard X, supported by a dedicated team of teaching and non-teaching staff. The school continues its mission of nurturing responsible, compassionate and confident young individuals through faith, discipline, service and academic excellence.

Since its establishment in 1993, St. Mary's School, Newasa has been guided by visionary and dedicated principals whose commitment to excellence has shaped the institution into a center of quality education, discipline, and moral values.

Each principal has contributed significantly to the school's growth by strengthening academic standards, encouraging holistic development, promoting innovation, and fostering a nurturing environment where students are inspired to learn and succeed.

Today, the school proudly continues this legacy of excellence under the able leadership of Sr. Jyothis Joseph, carrying forward the vision of providing value-based education and preparing students to become responsible global citizens.
